“The company is siphoning the oil through a series of pipes and hoses to a ship, the Q4000, which will then clean and burn the oil and gas mixture in a processing device called an EverGreen burner.”
The Dangers and Difficulties of 'Bottom Kill'

“BP has only one arrow left in its quiver, a method known as 'bottom kill.' The idea is for relief wells to stop the gushing oil from below, but the technical challenges are formidable. Past experiences show that the oil may continue flowing into late autumn.”
BP Hires Army of Washington Fixers to Manage Oil-Spill Outrage

“Coordinating the approach is a crisis-management team, assembled over the last two months, of high-priced Washington insiders. Orchestrating the response is the Brunswick Group, whose Washington managing partner, Hilary Rosen, has connections throughout the city as the former head of the Recording Industry Association of America and from previous jobs that include working for Senator Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat. To help massage the press, Brunswick has retained John Feehery, who served as an aide to former House Speaker Dennis Hastert. Other recent hires include Alex Castellanos, an adviser to Republican presidential campaigns, who comes aboard with his own media and advertising firm, Purple Strategies. WilmerHale, a law and public policy firm populated by top officials from President Bill Clinton’s administration, is helping contend with multiple legal issues and investigations. And to help BP fight the war against viral innuendo, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide is advising on digital media such as Facebook and Twitter.”
Obama's Oval Office Speech Translated Says "Drill Baby Drill"
http://www.newsroomamerica.com/story/23220.html
“President Obama basically said we are stuck with risky drilling operations for the foreseeable future until someone can figure out what can replace oil. At the same time he appeared to warn Peak Oil was nearly upon us, which seems a contradiction in terms. The world is running out of oil but we will be reliant on it for quite some time?”

The Perfect Spill: Solutions for Averting the Next Deepwater Horizon
http://www.thesolutionsjournal.com/node/629
“A recently released study estimated the total value of these ecosystem services for the Mississippi River Delta to be in the range of $12-47 billion per year. Based on the flow of these services into the future, the value of the Delta as a natural asset was estimated to be in the range of $330 billion to $1.3 trillion, far more than the total market value of BP ($189 billion) before the spill. Unlike BP, ecosystem service values are outside the market. They continue to produce benefits unless an action like the spill damages them.”

BP Gulf Spill Fuels Australian Opponents to Drilling
Despite efforts by the environmental community to publicize Australia’s Timor Sea oil well blowout last August, the oil industry and the general public in the U.S. barely took notice. Now, our Gulf Oil Disaster (and the pending investigation report of the Timor Sea spill) are generating opposition to deepwater drilling off Australia, where the government is opening new exploration areas. Resources Minister Martin Ferguson is offering 31 drilling areas in waters as deep as 3,750 meters, more than twice the depth of BP’s leaking well.

“NOAA has expanded the closed fishing area in the Gulf of Mexico to capture portions of the oil slick moving beyond the area’s current northern boundary, off the Florida panhandle’s federal-state waterline. This boundary was moved to Panama City Beach. The closed area now represents 80,806 square miles, which is approximately 33.4 percent of Gulf of Mexico federal waters.”
